2013 Thanksgiving at Omni Amelia Island Plantation

Does it seem that we go straight from the end of summer to Christmas these days?  We celebrate Halloween with pumpkin carving, a quick day of costumes and over indulging on candy, but then we fly straight into December festivities.  But that skips one of my favorite holidays!  The holiday where people aren't distracted by decorations.  The day where it's all about the food, and the fellowship.  The day where we slow down and reflect on what we're truly thankful for. You know, before we spend the next month buying presents, over-decorating, and not appreciating the little things because we're too distracted creating the perfect holiday season. Don't get me wrong, I am usually at Black Friday bright and early and have been known to have my Christmas tree up and decorated before others awake from their tryptophan slumber.  But I feel bad for the forgotten holiday.  I think we need to celebrate and give thanks for everything, and everyone, in our lives and allow that thanksgiving to catapult us into the holiday season.  So this year, don't rush from Halloween to December.  Celebrate Thanksgiving.  And if you need some help with your Thanksgiving plans, so you can focus on your thankfulness and those around you, then celebrate Thanksgiving at Omni Amelia Island Plantation.  You'll find we're taking care of everything, and that is something you can be thankful for.

22nd Annual Taste of Amelia Island

It's no secret that Amelia Island is amazing.  Our little barrier island was just selected as one of the Top 25 Islands in the World in the 2013 Condé Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice Awards.  One of the things that makes our 13 mile island so unique, besides the beach, the southern charm, the wildlife, etc,  is the variety, quality and charm of our Amelia Island restaurants!  Whether you're looking for a small chef-owned restaurant with an outdoor courtyard or you're dining on fresh seafood by the ocean, the options of Amelia Island restaurants is endless.  Sometimes it's just too much to choose from!  But there's one night a year, where you don't have to pick, where you can put on your best cocktail attire, and nibble on the best selections from many of our island's best restaurants.  And that night is just a month away at the 22nd annual Taste of Amelia Island!

Football at the Falcon’s Nest

It's baseball playoff time (go Red Sox!), but some of you can't see past football season once it begins!  Jaguars fans have the privilege of getting to see their team play every week (well maybe that's not a privilege recently), but if your affiliation lies with another team - say, for instance, the Patriots, you’ll be hard-pressed to watch them play from your living room every glorious Football Sunday. The Falcon’s Nest understands your dilemma.

Fall Tour of Homes by Amelia Island Plantation Real Estate

When I first visited Amelia Island Plantation, I knew this community was something special.  And that something special needs to be shared!  I started as director of real estate sales and marketing in September and knew right away we needed to host a Fall Tour of Homes to allow guests, locals and potential real estate customers, the opportunity to view our Amelia Island Plantation real estate community and a variety of our listings.  I am excited to announce our first Fall Tour of Homes will be held on Saturday, October 12th from 1:00 to 4:00 PM.

Coaching “Animal Strong” Junior Tennis at Omni Amelia Island Plantation

My perception of what a great tennis coach is has changed drastically over my 12 years of coaching.  At first,  I thought it was the coach who gave the greatest technical advice and who also played the best.  This eventually shifted to the assumption that if you were coaching an unbelievable tennis prodigy, that must mean you were also a great coach.  Recently, however, my thoughts on this have shifted again.  Sure, you need to be technically proficient and of course you have to want the person you are coaching to get better, but there is also something more. After all, every coach has given the same set of instructions at some point in time. Players need to be told  to bend their knees, or to hit higher over the net, or to get their ball toss higher.  But with this in mind, what separates a good coach from a great one?
