Winter Birds on Amelia Island

Winter is a great time for viewing birds on Amelia Island!  Although many of our birds stay year-round, a few like to go further south during the winter and others like to come here as "snowbirds" - who can blame them?  Omni Amelia Island Plantation provides plenty of spots for birds to feed and roost on our 1,350-acre natural resort.  One area that birds have flocked to is a new retention pond that was recently added on the marsh side of our property near our golf shop.  We love this spot too, because we have an opportunity to observe the birds with no obstructions and without scaring them away, a birders dream come true.  Our last tour spotted a mixed group of birds, which is common, including Woodstorks, Snowy Egrets, White Ibis and Mallard Ducks.   On this day the Birds of Amelia nature tour also saw a group of Hooded Mergansers and a Great Blue Heron!

Amelia Island Plantation Chefs
Explore Omni Hotels Portfolio

I’ve worked for Omni Hotels & Resorts for the past five years.  During that time I’ve been fortunate to have met and worked with amazing people, attend milestone events in the brands history, and visit Omni hotels across the country.  Another advantage of a hospitality career is “task force” (temporary transfer to another property to assist in their daily operations).  Not all associates get this fantastic opportunity, but several finance, room operations, sales and culinary associates do every year with Omni.  During our “down time” at our Amelia Island resort this winter, several Amelia Island Plantation chefs went on task force to maintain a steady work schedule.  I asked three of them to share an experience:

Falcon’s Nest Featured in
Amelia Island Restaurant Week

Most people look forward to Christmas or their birthday or their anniversary.  As a self-declared "fat kid" (one who enjoys eating but has a less discerning palate than a foodie), I look forward to the annual Amelia Island Restaurant Week!  The Amelia Island Restaurant Week kicked off  Friday, January 18th and finishes on Sunday, January 27th allowing diners a full week and two weekends to enjoy special values at their favorite restaurants and try out new ones as well.  Restaurant Week offers a great opportunity to try a selection of Amelia Island restaurants and enjoy a special three course, prix-fixe dinner for either $20.13 or $30.13 per person (excluding taxes and gratuities).   Of course regular menus are still available, but the Restaurant Week menu's are great!
