Golf Anchor Putting Rule Change

The hot topic right now in golf is the potential banning of anchoring a putter to make a stroke. Golf anchor putting means to attach it to your body, serving as a fulcrum in the stroke. In theory, this makes it easier to putt by making a natural pendulum.  The governing bodies of golf, the United States Golf Association and the Royal and Ancient Golf Club, are proposing the rule that will outlaw the use of anchoring a putter, and will take comments on the subject for the next three months. So what does this mean for you and me? Well the first thing is that belly putters and long putters are not going away, they are not banning the putters, just how you use them. If in fact the rule does pass and I believe all signs are pointing that way,  it will not go into effect until the year 2016. The rule will read, ''In making a stroke, the player must not anchor the club, either "directly" or by use of an "anchor point.''  In conclusion, if the rule does take effect, you will have a few more years to either learn the conventional way of putting, or learn a new technique for using your long or belly putter.  If you're looking to improve your putting, here's four tips for putting with a conventional putter. And you should practice at any of the Omni Amelia Island Plantation's golf courses!  Four Putting Tips for Use of a Conventional Putter

Holiday Cocktails for Seasonal Entertaining

As a little boy my family always enjoyed Texas sized family celebrations complete with dinner, dancing and of course everyone’s favorite holiday cocktails. One of my fondest memories is sitting at the children’s table during our family Christmas party and sipping on my spiced apple cider as I watched my mom and dad make their way to the dance floor. As soon as they were two-stepping to the holiday tunes of Jerry Jeff Walker, I would sneak over to their seats and pull a Creamy Brandy Alexander covered cherry out of their fancy glass and relish it all in one bite! Since those days, a frothy Brandy Alexander has been my nostalgic link to holidays past. Having moved from the children’s table to the role of Food and Beverage Director at the Omni Amelia Island Plantation, I have learned a thing or two about all the moving parts involved in gracefully executing an elegant holiday gathering. Here are a few suggestions that you can use to add the perfect touch of panache to your holiday event this season.  Holiday Entertaining Tips from Omni Amelia Island Plantation:

Holiday Shopping for your Hunk!
Ladies night out at The Spa

I have always had trouble shopping for men. Women are easy, you can't go wrong with jewelry or accessories or something yummy smelling like lotion or candles. But there aren't standard gifts for men and they don't get as excited about a present as a woman. In fifth grade I bought my boyfriend a cassette tape of a popular song and Adidas cologne. He gave me gold heart earrings and then I couldn't bring myself to give him my gift because it didn't seem adequate enough. It started my downward spiral of stressing over what to buy any guy in my life - boyfriend, brother, dad, or husband. But this year ladies, you don't have to stress over what to buy for men! The Spa at Omni Amelia Island Plantation invites you to a ladies night out where we'll have guy gift ideas in one location plus you can complete your own holiday wish list to give the guys to ensure you receive the perfect gift in return! (Don't worry, we'll keep the list on file all year so he can just come in and select a gift from your list for the holidays or any special occasion!)

Featured Listing of Real Estate at
Amelia Island Plantation – 1870 Turtle Dunes

I first have to say that I have been a beach bum since birth.  So of course my first featured listing on real estate at Amelia Island Plantation is an amazing ocean front penthouse unit in Turtle Dunes Villas.  I recently took a tour of 1870 Turtle Dunes, a 2 bedroom, 2.5 bath condominium, that is sure to make any beach lover fall head over heels.  The unit is available for sale with Amelia Island Plantation Real Estate, the office located directly on the resort community property. The first thing I noticed as I walked through the entrance was all the natural light from the large windows in the bedrooms, the bath areas and even streaming in from the stairwell. The stairs were designed with loads of hidden storage underneath....for all your beach accessories of course.  Next, I noticed the beautiful bleached, heart of pine hardwood floors throughout the living areas of villa.  The downstairs hall led me to discover the master suite which was when I headed straight to the oversized windows.  The ocean view was AMAZING!  I could only imagine getting to wake up to that view of the beach and Atlantic Ocean, the ocean sounds, and the glorious seaside breezes everyday.  Turning away from the view, which was hard, I saw the master bath has an arched entry showcasing the double vanity and openness of the bath area.  The master closets offer ample storage as well for all those who like to shop.  Next, I went into the guest bedroom and found the same wonderful ocean view with the added bonus of a private balcony.  The guest bath was created with two glass block windows that help to open up the bathroom and allow for more natural light.  I loved the granite vanity stand!
