Amelia Island Gingerbread House
Welcome to Santa’s Summer Home
This holiday season, the culinary team at Omni Amelia Island Plantation Resort decided to amp up it’s gingerbread skills. Executive Chef Daven Wardynski wanted to create “something more” than just your traditional gingerbread house, so he began sketching out ideas and brainstorming with his team as to what that something more was going to be. What they finally settled on was something festive but uniquely Amelia Island. Following 1,000 hours of planning, baking and building, the culinary team finally unveiled its creation this past Saturday in the hotel lobby. We’re proud to present Santa’s Summer Home. This wonderful edible arrangement features an 8-foot long gingerbread boat dock, a 10-foot tall gingerbread palm tree, a gingerbread Tiki Hut and a beach made entirely out of “Chef’s Sand” (brown sugar, white sugar and cookie crumbs). 2700 cups of all purpose flour, 40 cups of ground ginger, 12 cups of ground cinnamon, 12 cups of baking soda, 12 cups of salt, 300 lbs of butter, 600 cups of granulated sugar, 1200 eggs and 300 cups of molasses and 1,000 hours of TLC from the culinary team.
