Lace up those running shoes…

This Thanksgiving, Omni Amelia Island Plantation is teaming up with the McArthur Family YMCA for their first annual 2014 Turkey Trot 5K, so you can start burning off those calories before you even start consuming them! The chip timed race will begin promptly at 8am, and will start and finish at Omni Amelia Island Plantation’s serene Racquet Park. Participants will enjoy a scenic run through the beautiful, tree-canopied roads and paths of Amelia Island as they race to support the local Y.  The event, which is open to the public, invites all runners to attend.

Awards will be given to the top three male and female winners in each age category. Prizes will also be given for the most creative outfit and for the most participants in a family. In addition to the Turkey Trot 5K, there will also be a 1 mile Kids Fun Run scheduled for 8:30am, along with a Kids Fun Zone, featuring family activities, face painting, tennis demos, and more. Complimentary child care will be available as well. Running or walking is perfectly acceptable, but sorry–no animals, bicycles or strollers will be permitted on the course.

Race registration is available online, here. The cost is $25 for adults 18 and older and $15 for youths entering the 1 mile Kids Fun Run. All registered participants will receive a Turkey Trot 5K tshirt, which can be picked up on November 26 at the McArthur Family YMCA or on the morning of the race at Racquet Park’s Health & Fitness Center. Please remember to bring a valid I.D. with you the morning of the race for check-in. Check in begins the morning of the race from 6:30-7:45am. The Fun Zone will be open during the event and will offer family activities including a bounce house, S.A.F.E. Archery, face painting, tennis demos, personal training tips and more!
