Fish to Fork is Coming…

Competing chefs include Amelia Island’s very own Daven WardynskiEric Frischkorn from Jackson Family Wines, Zeke Mears of Jacksonville’s Bistro Aix, Bruce Moffett with the Moffett Restaurant Group in Charlotte, North Carolina, Richard Jones from Green Door Gourmet in Nashville, Tennessee and Tom Catherall, Executive Chef at Here to Serve in Atlanta. All six chefs will square off for both individual and team challenges on Saturday, May 17 and guest attendees (that’s you!) will have the chance to determine the winners.

The competition commences on Friday, May 16 when all six chefs launch from Fernandina Harbor Marina in search of the ocean’s bounty. Each chef and his team will have the opportunity to charter their own boat, with approximately five hours to catch what will ultimately be incorporated into their final dish for the individual portion of the competition.

Event guests are encouraged to arrive at Omni Amelia Island Plantation’s Magnolia Garden at 6:00PM on May 17 for the main event. Guests will enjoy passed hors d’oeuvres, an open bar and live music from 6-6:30PM. At 6:30PM, the Master Sommeliers from Jackson Family Wines will take the stage and introduce all six competitors. Each chef will have the opportunity to woo the crowd and talk about the inspiration for his final dish. All six chefs will then break into teams of three for the group leg of the competition…and that’s when the real fun begins.    ‎

Magnolia Garden

Magnolia Garden will be split into seven staging areas with six individual stations (one for each chef) and one main stage area for the group competition. From the main stage, two teams of three chefs will have to work together to execute 200 dishes in under an hour incorporating a secret ingredient that won’t be revealed until the competition starts.

Meanwhile, each chef’s accompanying sous-chef will man the six smaller stations, executing the final dishes for the individual portion of the competition. Once the competition begins, Fish to Fork attendees will have the opportunity to float from station to station to sample each chef’s final dish along with a fine wine or premium handcrafted cocktail. Once attendees have decided upon their favorite dish, they can donate “dollars” to their favorite station. At the end of the competition, the chef that has accumulated the most in donations will be declared the winner.

The group portion of the competition promises to be a live and exciting sprint to the finish. The Master of Ceremonies will give provide live commentary during the cook-off, engaging with the chefs as they race to prepare 200 plates for guests to sample.  Once the hour for the group leg is up, guests will have the opportunity to sample each team’s dish and will then vote with a live ballot to determine the winning team. Dessert and additional cocktails will then be provided to Fish to Fork attendees while votes are counted. Once all of the votes have been tallied, the Master of Ceremonies will announce the very first winners of our annual Fish to Fork competition.
