Wilson Kids Day

Amelia Island Futures Tennis ChampionshipsThe Amelia Island tennis tournament was kicked off last week with the Wilson Kids Day hosted at the Omni Amelia Island Plantation’s Racquet Park. The event was supported by the USTA Pro Circuit and plays a key role in promoting the USTA’s Ten and Under Tennis initiatives for children. Ten and Under Tennis focuses on making the game of tennis more accessible to beginner and younger players by using age appropriate balls, rackets and court sizes. Kids learn agility, skills, techniques and enjoy the fun and activity that tennis provides all ages!

Wilsons Kid Day 3Wilson Kids Day was attended by forty children starting at age four.  They were joined by the Cliff Drysdale Tennis professional teaching staff and players from the USTA Pro Circuit for a great day of tennis instruction and fun. The children were treated to a question and answer session with the players prior to the one hour tennis clinic. During the clinic the children played tennis and learned new skills with the Pro Circuit players and the Cliff Drysdale Tennis team. After the tennis session was complete the players posed for photos and signed autographs with the children. The children were provided lunch courtesy of Omni Amelia Island Plantation’s Marché Burette and then watched the professional matches of the Amelia Island Futures Championships.

Come out this weekend to Racquet Park to catch the final matches as these up-and-coming tennis stars play for the $10,000 purse! Final matches are being held June 21-23 with a $10 ticket donation benefiting the Boys and Girls Club of Nassau County. (Tickets can be purchased at the event or call 904-277-5151.)
